Health insurance plans are increasingly becoming harder to understand over time. First, with health insurance plans find out what the pre existing period is on conditions you have currently. Pre existing health conditions may not be covered for a certain period of time and the length of time can vary from company to company. With group health insurance plans a law called HIPPA has changed the way pre existing conditions affect group health insurance plans. If an individual has had continous coverage during the last twelve months under group coverage...there is no waiting period for health insurance.

On other health insurance plans certain things may or may not be covered under the health insurance program and you will need to make sure and ask based on what's important to you in a health insurance program. Some of thes may include physical exams and health screenings, care by specialists, emergency room and hospital care, prescription drugs, vision, dental insurance and more. With health insurance plans you should also ask your health insurance representative about: mental health care, services for drug or alcohol abuse, lifetime maximums for the policies, maximum amount the company will pay per occurence and more. This should help you with asking health insurance questions that may normally slip your mind. Most of us don't think to ask these health insurance questions and many times it can end up surprising you if you find something is not covered in a health insurance program. Ask questions, it's your money your giving to the health insurance company...don't be afraid to ask.
